Thinking about the future can feel like walking in the dark with a blindfold on. What will next year be like? Will I make the team? What will I be when I grow up? Here’s the good news: God knows the future. He knows everything about tomorrow, next week, and years from now, and he’s never surprised.

My Times Are in Your Hands

When King David wrote Psalm 31, he was in big trouble. Enemies were after him, and he didn’t know what would happen next. But he knew who was in charge of his future.

Psalm 31:14-15 But I trust in you, LORD; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me.

“My times” means every day of your life: today, tomorrow, and every year to come. They’re all in God’s hands. You don’t have to figure out every step by yourself.

God Has a Plan

God also gave his people a wonderful promise when they were far from home and didn’t know what was next.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

God knew all about your life before you were even born (Psalm 139:16). He still knows what’s ahead for you.

Trust God Today

Trusting God starts with everyday things, like a big test, a new school year, or a hard decision. Jesus said, “Do not worry about tomorrow” (Matthew 6:34). Instead of worrying, we can talk to God and ask him to lead us.

The Takeaway

God knows the future, and he loves you. This week, when you feel scared about tomorrow, stop and remind yourself, “God is already there, and he loves me.” Then pray and ask Jesus to help you trust his plan.

Discuss and Dive Deeper

Talk about it:

  1. Read “The Takeaway” above together. What’s one thing you learned?
  2. If you could travel ten years into the future, what dream job do you hope you’d have?
  3. Read Psalm 31:14-15 together. What does David say is in God’s hands?
  4. Parents, what did you think your life would look like when you grew up? How did God’s plan turn out differently?
  5. Why is it hard to trust God when you’re worried about something coming up at school or in sports? How can Jesus give you peace?
  6. What is one fear or worry about the future that your family can give to God in prayer tonight?
  7. Take turns praying, asking God to help each person trust him with tomorrow.
