Have you ever worn dark sunglasses indoors? Everything looks dim and blurry. But the right glasses make everything clear. The way you see people works the same way. When you look at others through Jesus’ eyes, you see them clearly, and it changes how you treat them. That’s what love does.

This is part of The Grid for Kids. Your “grid” is like a sifter in your heart. It’s made of Bible truths that help you keep the good ideas and toss out the bad ones.

The Rock of Love

The second rock in your Bible grid is love. Jesus said the most important rule is to love God first and love others next (Matthew 22:37-39). Then he gave his followers a new command.

John 13:34 A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

Jesus doesn’t just ask us to love people. He shows us how, by loving us first.

Love Is Something You Do

Love is more than a warm feeling. It’s a choice to be kind, patient, and helpful. The Bible says, “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth” (1 John 3:18).

  • Include a lonely classmate in your game.
  • Let your sibling pick the movie.
  • Encourage a teammate who made a mistake.

1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

The Takeaway

Seeing people through Jesus’ eyes helps us love them like he does. This week, when someone is annoying or hurtful, stop and ask, “How can I show Jesus’ love right now?” Then choose kindness instead of getting even.

Discuss and Dive Deeper

Talk about it:

  1. Read “The Takeaway” above together. What’s one thing you learned?
  2. What are your top three favorite things: toys, foods, or games?
  3. Read John 13:34 together. How does Jesus say we should love each other?
  4. Parents, who showed you great love and kindness on a hard day when you were a kid?
  5. Why is it hard to love a mean or annoying classmate or sibling? How can Jesus help you choose kindness?
  6. What act of love can your family do this week to surprise a neighbor or friend?
  7. Take turns praying, asking God to help each person see others through Jesus’ eyes.
