Do you ever get stuck with the little jobs, like taking out the trash or picking up toys that aren’t even yours? Small jobs can feel unimportant or unfair. But in the story of Naaman, God used a girl who didn’t even get her name in the Bible to do something huge.

A Girl With No Name

Naaman was a powerful army general, but he had a terrible skin disease called leprosy. In his house lived a young girl from Israel. She had been taken from her home and made to work as a servant. She could have been angry. Instead, she spoke up to help.

2 Kings 5:2-3 Now bands of raiders from Aram had gone out and had taken captive a young girl from Israel, and she served Naaman’s wife. She said to her mistress, “If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.”

Naaman went to see God’s prophet Elisha, who told him to wash seven times in the Jordan River. Naaman almost refused, but when he obeyed, he was completely healed (2 Kings 5:14). It all started because a servant girl spoke up.

Do Small Things for Jesus

That girl didn’t have an important job, but she was faithful right where she was. God wants us to do the same, even with jobs that seem small.

Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,

When you do your chores with a good attitude, you’re not just helping your family. You’re serving Jesus. And Jesus said that people who are faithful with little things can be trusted with bigger things (Luke 16:10).

The Takeaway

No job is too small when you do it for Jesus. This week, when you get a job you don’t want to do, stop and ask yourself, “How can I do this in a way that makes Jesus smile?”

Discuss and Dive Deeper

Talk about it:

  1. Read “The Takeaway” above together. What’s one thing you learned?
  2. If you had a robot helper, what chore would you invent for it to do, and why?
  3. Read Colossians 3:23 together. How did the servant girl help Naaman?
  4. Parents, share a chore you didn’t like doing when you were a kid. How did you handle it?
  5. Why is it hard to have a good attitude about small jobs? How can Jesus change the way we think about them?
  6. What small job can your family do this week to show Jesus’ love to a neighbor or friend?
  7. Take turns praying, asking God to help you serve him in the little things.
