Picture a plate of warm cookies on the counter right before dinner. Your parents said not to touch them, and nobody is watching. That sneaky pull to grab one anyway is called temptation. Everyone gets tempted, even grown-ups. But when you’re tempted, God never leaves you stuck. He always gives you a way out.

Temptation Isn’t a Sin

Feeling tempted doesn’t mean you’re bad. Even Jesus was tempted, but he never sinned (Hebrews 4:15). The problem comes when we give in. Giving in to temptation leads to trouble, broken trust, and hurt feelings.

God Gives You a Way Out

Here’s a promise to remember every time you’re tempted.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Think of it like an exit door. God always puts one there. Your job is to look for it.

Take the Exit

Taking the way out means getting away before you make a bad choice. You might turn off a screen, walk into another room, or take a deep breath instead of snapping at your brother or sister. The Bible says to “flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness” (2 Timothy 2:22). Run away from the wrong thing, and run toward Jesus by praying, asking an adult for help, or doing something good instead.

The Takeaway

God always gives you a way out of temptation. This week, when temptation shows up, do an escape check: “What’s the exit door God is giving me right now?” Then take it.

Discuss and Dive Deeper

Talk about it:

  1. Read “The Takeaway” above together. What’s one thing you learned?
  2. If you could build a secret escape slide in your house, where would it lead, and what color would it be?
  3. Read 1 Corinthians 10:13 together. What does God promise when we’re tempted?
  4. Parents, share a sneaky temptation you struggled with as a kid. How did you learn to take the way out?
  5. Why is it hard to run from temptation when the wrong choice seems fun or gives a quick reward?
  6. What escape plan can your family make this week for when someone is tempted to lose their temper or disobey?
  7. Take turns praying, asking God to help each person see the way out and take it.
