What do you do when you win a prize, get a new toy, or score a goal? You probably cheer! Psalm 34 tells us we have even more reasons to cheer every day, because God is so good. When we praise God, we tell him how great he is and how much we love him.

Praise at All Times

King David wrote Psalm 34 after God rescued him from a scary situation. He decided to praise God no matter what.

Psalm 34:1 I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.

“Extol” is a fancy word for praise. David didn’t just praise God on good days. He praised him “at all times.”

God Is Good on Bad Days Too

Some days are hard. You might be sad, sick, or left out. But God doesn’t stop being good when we have a bad day.

Psalm 34:18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

When you feel down, God is close to you. Remembering how good he is can turn your heart around.

Praise Isn’t Just for Sunday

You don’t have to be at church to praise God. You can praise him at breakfast, on the bus, or at recess. You can sing a song, say a quick “thank you,” or tell a friend something great God did. The Bible says, “Taste and see that the LORD is good” (Psalm 34:8).

The Takeaway

God is good every day, so we can praise him every day. This week, when you feel sad, bored, or upset, stop and ask yourself, “What is one awesome thing God has done for me today?” Then tell him thank you.
