A lot of people today say, “What’s right for you might not be right for me.” But Proverbs 22 says there really is a right path, and parents are supposed to point their kids toward it.

The Right Path

Proverbs 22:6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

God gives parents the job of training their kids in the right way. Right and wrong aren’t just opinions. They come from God.

Calling Wrong Right

Isaiah 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.

When people mix up right and wrong, it hurts everyone. Telling the truth about right and wrong isn’t mean. It’s loving, as long as we do it kindly.

A Good Name

Proverbs 22:1 A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.

Choosing the right path builds a good reputation. Even when kids raised the right way make wrong choices, God never stops calling them back.

The Takeaway

There really is right and wrong, and God shows us the way. Parents point their kids to the right path, and a good name is worth more than riches.

  4. Why do some adults choose the wrong path when they were raised by parents who tried to teach them the right way?
  5. Sons, what’s one way you can build a good name at school or with friends?
  6. What’s your favorite verse from this chapter? Explain.
  7. Close your time together in prayer.
