A tree with deep roots can stand up to storms and grow lots of fruit. Proverbs 12 says godly people are like that. They don’t have to steal or cheat to get ahead because they grow good things on their own.

Deep Roots

Proverbs 12:3 No one can be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted.

Roots grow underground where nobody sees them. Your roots are your habits with God: praying, reading the Bible, and doing right when no one is watching. Strong roots keep you standing when life gets hard.

Love Correction

Proverbs 12:1 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid.

Wow, Proverbs doesn’t hold back! Hating correction is foolish. Growing up means letting parents and others help you grow.

You Reap What You Sow

Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

A farmer who plants corn gets corn. In life, what you put in is what you get out. Hard work and good choices grow good fruit. Dads, part of our job is helping our sons grow roots of their own so their faith isn’t just borrowed from us.

The Takeaway

Grow deep roots with God, and you’ll bear good fruit. You don’t need to copy or steal from others when your life is planted in God.

  6. What’s your favorite verse from this chapter? Explain.
