Have you ever finished a great book or movie and wished the adventure could keep going? Here’s some exciting news: God’s story isn’t over! It keeps going today through people who follow Jesus. And God invites kids to be part of it too.

Jesus Gave Us a Job

Before Jesus went back to heaven, he gave his followers a special mission.

Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

A disciple is someone who follows Jesus. Jesus wants the whole world to know him, and he promised to be with us while we tell them.

You Can Be a Light-Bearer

When you trust Jesus, you become part of God’s big story. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). You can shine his light by including a new kid at lunch, helping at home without being asked, standing up for someone who’s being picked on, or telling a friend about Jesus.

Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

The Best Is Yet to Come

The Bible starts with a perfect world in Genesis, and it ends with God making everything new in Revelation. One day there will be no more crying or pain (Revelation 21:4). Until then, we get to help more people join God’s family.

The Takeaway

God’s story keeps going, and you get to be part of it. This week, think of yourself as a light-bearer for Jesus. At school, on the field, or in your neighborhood, encourage someone with a kind word or tell someone about Jesus.

Discuss and Dive Deeper

Talk about it:

  1. Read “The Takeaway” above together. What’s one thing you learned?
  2. If you could jump into any movie or book as a hero, which story would you pick, and what would your superpower be?
  3. Read Matthew 28:19-20 together. What special job did Jesus give his followers?
  4. Parents, who told you about Jesus or showed you his love when you were a kid? How did it change your life?
  5. Why can it feel scary to talk about Jesus at school or on a team? How can the Holy Spirit help you be brave?
  6. What is one way your family can show God’s love to a neighbor or friend who doesn’t know Jesus yet?
  7. Take turns praying for someone you know who needs to hear about Jesus.
