To repent means more than just saying "I'm sorry."

Key Points:

  • Jesus talked about repentance a lot, in fact, he commanded it. The word repent appears in the Bible between 70 and 100 times!
  • To understand what repentance actually means, we can look at the Hebrew and Greek words that are used in the Bible and translated as repent. Nacham means a strong desire to change, Shub translates to a change of mind towards sin, and lastly Metanoia means a change of mind, purpose, and action. Numbers 23:19
  • At its heart, repentance is all about change. It is a change both in how we think and how we act. To repent is to fully change the direction of our lives, away from sin and towards God. 2 Corinthians 7:10, 1 Timothy 6:11
