If you're serious about mentoring, try using a journal to keep track of your discipling relationships.

Talking Points:

  • A mentoring journal can be as simple as a google doc (view sample) that you share with your small group or staff to hold yourself accountable to the Great Commission. Matthew 28:19-20
  • Every time you meet as a mentor, record the date, the name of your mentee(s), the stage you’re at in your relationship (Engage, Establish, or Empower), and the topic you covered.
  • Include notes to remind yourself about what you covered and to use as a prayer journal.
Discussion:
  1. Initial reactions to this topic? What jumped out at you?
  2. Read Matthew 28:19-20. Are you obeying this command right now?
  3. View a sample mentor journal. Do you have any questions about how this works?
  4. In your own words, describe the 3E process of pursueGOD disciple-making.
  5. What are the pros and cons of keeping a mentor journal? Make a list.
  6. Will you start keeping a mentor journal? Why or why not?
