House Church

How It Works

PG House Churches are independent gatherings of Christians who meet in homes to pursue God together. Though each gathering is unique, a typical PG house gathering includes at least three elements:

  • Fellowship: We start by simply connecting with one another and building relationship.
  • Teaching: We watch a short video together and discuss a topic every week – either the featured topic on this page (updated weekly) or another topic of our choosing as a house church. Subscribe to the PG Newsletter for a preview of topics every week.
  • Prayer: We end our gathering with a time of prayer for the needs of our house church, community, and world.

Other elements of the weekly gathering may include worship, communion, and baptism. House churches may also use kids and student topics for age-appropriate breakout groups.

Just for Kids

Got kids? PursueGOD Kids has you covered! PGK is an online Bible-based Kids’ Curriculum for K-5th grade. Every lesson includes a downloadable kids’ video, teacher’s pack, and large group script. These lessons are available to your house church through the PGK Instant Access page, which means you can start the lesson at church and send it home for families to use.

ABC Values

PG House Churches are marked by five biblical “ABC Values”:

  1. Authentic community. We want to create an environment of Christ-like love, where the gift of every believer matters. Acts 2:44
  2. Biblical teaching. We want to focus on the person and work of Jesus, applying his simple commands to everyday life. Acts 2:42
  3. Costly giving. We want to give sacrificially to Kingdom-advancing purposes both globally and locally. Acts 2:45, Acts 4:32
  4. Disciple-making. We want everyone to actively engage in disciple-making, whether inside or outside our house church. Acts 1:8
  5. Expectant prayer. We want to pray in faith for God’s will to be done in and through our lives. Acts 4:29
Leadership

House Church leaders are trained through the pursueGod Network and meet quarterly with a cohort of other House Church leaders around the country. Each cohort is led by a pursueGOD pastor who serves as an overseer. Leaders, click here to join a cohort.

Worship

Need help with worship for your house church? Check out our official Spotify Playlist, updated regularly with great new worship music. Play music during your fellowship time to create an atmosphere of Christ-centered worship before you get to the teaching for the week.

Here’s a tip. Don’t feel compelled to sing together, as this might be awkward for attenders – especially if they are new to your gathering.

Giving

Giving is a part of healthy Christian living, but House Churches have low overhead! Here are three ways you can give as a member of an organic house church:
