This is part 3 of the Foundations for Kids series.

Is being a Christian just about going to church and trying to be a good person? No way! God has a special mission for every Christian, even if you're just a kid!
Memory Verse
Matthew 28:19 “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations…”

So far we’ve learned that anyone can start a relationship with God by trusting Jesus and asking him into their heart. And once that happens you can start living a new kind of life. But there’s one more thing you need to know if you’re really going to pursue God.

Foundations Truth #3: We Grow By _________________

It’s easy for kids to think the whole world revolves around them. Parents, teachers, principals, bus drivers… everyone is helping them! But do you know what happens when you grow up? You’re the one helping others! And that’s how God wants it to be. If we really want to grow up as Christians, then we need to help others.

Galatians 5:14 For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

So, how do you do it? There are three ways.

We Grow By __________ People

If you want to grow up to be the most mature Christian ever, you have to learn to serve people around you. Do you know who was famous for that in the Bible? Jesus!

John 13:12-15 After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.

In Jesus day, only the lowest servants would do the dirty work of washing other people’s feet. But when Jesus did it for his disciples, he was sending them an important message: be a servant. Who are some people you can serve this week?

We Grow By ________ Money

Did you know that at church you can give money in the offering? Why would a kid do that?! Because that money helps more people meet Jesus! And even kids can be generous with their money – even if they don’t have a lot. Every little bit counts!

2 Corinthians 8:7 Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us—I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving.

In this verse, Paul says we should just get better at the normal churchy stuff. We should also get better at giving away money! It’s a habit that helps us to grow as Christians.

But there’s one more thing, and it’s important.

The Greatest Way to Grow Is by ___________________ With Others

Have you ever told another kid what Jesus means to you? At first it seems hard to do, but it’s really pretty easy! Try inviting them to church or showing them one of your favorite Kids Church videos. Maybe they want to have a relationship with God, too. Maybe they’ve noticed that you’re a different kind of kid, and they want what you have. When you share your faith, that’s when you’ll really start growing. And someday, you’ll be able to mentor other kids and teach them about Jesus. That’s exactly what God wants.

Matthew 28:18-19 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations…”

Do you know what Jesus’ disciples did after he told them to go make disciples? They went! They starting sharing their faith, and lots of people became Christians. You’re one of them, right? So now you can go and help others too, by serving, giving and sharing your faith.
