Does God allow us to get away with our sins?

Talking Points:

  • When we don’t get immediately punished for our sins, it’s not because our sin is OK. It is because God is being patient for us to repent and turn back to Him.
  • Agreeing with God that we have sinned helps us in our awareness of our sin. And once we become aware of our sin, we must repent. Repentance means that we turn away from our sin and toward God. Acts 3:19
  • Let’s not ever confuse God’s patience with thinking that he is not paying attention or that our sin doesn’t matter. You aren’t getting away with your sin. What’s happening is this: God’s love for us is wanting the best for us, which is our salvation and reconciliation with him. 2 Peter 3:9

  2. Read Romans 2:4. Is there a sin that you haven’t dealt with because you’ve misunderstood God’s patience? How does God want you to deal with this sin?
  3. Read Acts 3:19. Can you repent and still continue in your sin? What does “turning” from sin look like?
  4. Read 2 Peter 3:9. Why is God patient with us? How is God’s love similar to that of a parent?
  5. Is there a step you need to take based on today’s topic?
