How do you know if you’re married to the right person? You’re married to them.

Talking Points:

  • Before we get married, we evaluate potential partners’ qualifications for a spouse. Do we get along with them? What field of work are they in? Are they following Christ 1 Corinthians 7:39?
  • After we get married, there is one qualification for being a spouse: you are married. This counts even if your spouse is an unbeliever. 1 Corinthians 7:10-16

In marriage, God acts by creating a bond that is not to be broken by people (Genesis 2:23-24). Marriage is a metaphor for Christ and the church – he will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). And your spouse is the only person with whom you can truly demonstrate the covenant faithfulness of Christ and his church.
