Athletes play for all sorts of reasons: Pride, competition, for their parents, for themselves… Who do you play for?

Talking Points:

  • For some athletes, it’s easy to tell that the guy who is pounding his chest and pointing at the name on the back of his jersey is playing for himself. But Christian athletes declare their allegiance more authentically by the Christ-like character displayed as they compete. Colossians 3:23-24
  • Believers should pursue humility, knowing that they are nothing without the righteousness given to them by Jesus. If you compete for Jesus, what you do can never become who you are.
  • Christians have been given the greatest gift and can give God the greatest glory by pointing toward him in winning or losing. In Jesus, a loss will never sting as much, because believers have already won the ultimate race.
