Leaning on God's word during anxious times is one of the best things you can do as a student.

Being in high school is hard and it can bring a lot of anxiety – anxiety about the future, friendships, schoolwork, and so many other things. An important way of combating anxiety is to turn to the Bible. Here are five verses that can help to fight your anxiety:

Verse #1

Isaiah 41:10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

This verse will help to remind you that God is with you and here to help you. He will give you the opportunities he wants you to have, but you must trust him!

Verse #2

Philippians 4:6-7 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

This verse starts out by reminding you to pray. You should always bring you worries to God and thank him for all that he has already given you. When you bring your anxieties to God, he will bring you peace.

Verse #3

John 14:27 I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

The peace that God gives you can’t be matched by peace found in the world. Finding ultimate peace and contentment in the Lord will always be much more effective than things like taking a bath or exercising to reduce stress. While those things can help, you can only find true and lasting peace through God.

Verse #4

Matthew 6:33-34 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

Thinking about the future is the fastest way to bring on feelings of uncertainty. But if you just focus on you life right now and live in a way that honors God he will provide for you.

Verse #5

Psalm 55:22 Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.

Giving up your burdens to God is the biggest step in overcoming anxiety. You must let him work in and through you to have his will done in your life.

As anxieties arise, remember where you can find ultimate peace. God will provide you with the things you need, so you don’t have to worry. He wants to walk with you in this life and protect your heart from anxiety.
