This is part 3 of the Marriage Mentoring series.

Meeting with a couple for the first time can feel intimidating but it’s actually easy. Spending time building rapport and talking about expectations for mentoring will help to set a direction and the right tone for the mentoring relationship.

Key Points:

  1. It’s okay to talk a little about yourself when you first meet a new couple, and one spouse can often be more closed-off than another. The space is safe, so show it.
  2. It’s important to gauge early-on where the couple is in their walk with Christ. It is also crucial to learn what they are hoping to gain from being mentored.
  3. It’s important to set the tone, build rapport and establish relationship. You are simply having conversations with the other couple.
  4. When using the pursueGOD.org tools, it’s important to help the couple navigate the site since our mentoring method assumes you’re using it.
  5. Make sure to conclude by scheduling a topic for the next time you meet.

Bible Text:

Galatians 6:2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
