This is part 3 of the Marriage Mentoring series.
Meeting with a couple for the first time can feel intimidating but it’s actually easy. Spending time building rapport and talking about expectations for mentoring will help to set a direction and the right tone for the mentoring relationship.
Key Points:
- It’s okay to talk a little about yourself when you first meet a new couple, and one spouse can often be more closed-off than another. The space is safe, so show it.
- It’s important to gauge early-on where the couple is in their walk with Christ. It is also crucial to learn what they are hoping to gain from being mentored.
- It’s important to set the tone, build rapport and establish relationship. You are simply having conversations with the other couple.
- When using the pursueGOD.org tools, it’s important to help the couple navigate the site since our mentoring method assumes you’re using it.
- Make sure to conclude by scheduling a topic for the next time you meet.
Bible Text:
Galatians 6:2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
