There are three important things to remember during the busy Christmas season.

Key Points:

  • Christmas is the story of God putting on flesh. “The Word” – Jesus – came into the world by putting on human flesh and made his home among us. John 1:1-2, John 1:14
  • God doesn’t always look or act how we think he should. The Jews of Jesus’s day believed that the Messiah would be a military leader who would rise up to lead Israel in rebellion against Rome so they could have their country back. But Jesus came into the world as a baby, not a warrior. Psalm 115:3
  • Hope has a name and his name is Jesus. Christmas is about God being with us through Jesus. Jesus is the reason for the season and the reason that we can have new life. Isaiah 7:14, Colossians 1:19

Quote This:

Isaiah 7:14 All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).

Talk About It
  1. What is your initial reaction to this topic? What jumped out at you?
  2. What is a good Christmas memory of yours? What are some of your family Christmas traditions today?
  3. Read John 1:1-2 and John 1:14. Some people teach and believe that Jesus is not God. What does John 1 say? Why does it matter?
  4. Read Psalm 115:3. Why do you think Jesus came into the world in such a humble way? Is there a time in your life when God came to you in a way you weren’t expecting? Explain.
  5. Why is it important that Jesus was born of a virgin? Explain.
  6. Why is it important that Jesus lived and died as a human? Explain.
  7. Read Colossians 1:19. How does Jesus offer us hope? What will you do to remember the real meaning of Christmas this year?
  8. Write a personal action step based on this conversation.
