Christmas is a time of lights: lights on houses, windows, businesses and trees. There are lights everywhere. Lights bring a nostalgic feel to Christmas that captivates our hearts and warms our spirits.  This holiday season we are going to draw our gaze upon Jesus- the true light of the world.  If we truly understand how Jesus is the ultimate light of Christmas, our lives will be benefited in amazing ways.

Four benefits the light of Jesus brings to us this Christmas

1. The light of Jesus penetrates your darkness.
For some, the wonder and warmth that light brings isn’t always shining brightly at Christmas. It’s just been a tough, dark year.  What you need is some light to penetrate your darkness.

John 8:12 …I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.

The light of Christ can penetrate any form of darkness.  That is what Christmas is all about.   Jesus the light, comes to the world, in order to penetrate the darkness and the despair of life and bring his light of love and help.

2. The light of Jesus brings clarity to who Jesus is.
Light illuminates, it brings clarity and understanding. You have no doubt heard the phrase, “He shed light on the subject” or “she illuminated the point.” To illuminate or to shed light on something is to bring clarity and understanding to it.

John 12:46 I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.

Jesus said basically, “I don’t want you confused about your life, about yourself, or about  your problems, about your eternity, about me.  And most of all, I don’t want you to be in darkness about what God is really like. I want you to have clarity.”

John 14:9 …Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.

You no longer have to question who God is and what he is like. Jesus is the answer to those questions. If you want to know what God is like, look at me.

Colossians 1:15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.

That’s how much you matter to God.  He loves you so much that He sent Christ to die for you so that His plan for your life could be accomplished.  What an amazing plan!

Romans 5:8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

3. The light of Jesus guides your steps.
Light helps us to find our way and direct our path. When you are lost, you need light.

John 12:46 I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.

He says, “I want to light your path, I want to direct your life, I want to be your guiding light. I have the ability to guide you through the darkness.” Do you know why he can be our guiding light?  Because He is the powerful light of the world, and as the powerful light of the world he can see farther than we can.  He knows your future and can prepare you for it as well as support you through it.

4. The light of Jesus transforms your life.
Light is transformative, it makes things grow. The light from the sun makes things grow. The light from the Son of God makes things grow.  We’re talking about New Life, Full Life and Eternal Life. He wants to take care of your past, your present, and your future.

2 Corinthians 5:17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

John 10:10 I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

If you don’t have Jesus, the light of the world in your life, you are spiritually dead, but you can be made alive by the light of Christ. When you let the light of Christ in your life you are rescued from the darkness. From that point on, you are guided, comforted and loved by Jesus forever.

John 12:36 Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.”
