Pornography is not just something that guys struggle with. Both men and women can become enslaved by pornography. Marriages have been destroyed because people have become hooked at an early age and cannot free themselves from it’s pull.

For the sake of love

The solution to pornography is not to say “No” out of duty. This will certainly fail. What will succeed is a fight for a superior pleasure.  You say “No” for the love of your future spouse. Many marriages have been destroyed because of an addiction that started when one of the partners was a teenager. The fight for a superior pleasure realizes that my pleasure will actually increase if I don’t go to pornography. I will triumph over lower pleasures and instead receive a higher pleasure.

The battle can be won

The battle can be won. God can enable you to sit in front of a computer and not go to pornographic sites. You can think of your King Jesus and be faithful.

Matthew 5:8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.

Desire this to be true in your life. If a person cannot see God clearly in the Bible they will be ineffective in their christian life.

Fighting for joy

If our heart is repeatedly defiled by pornographic pictures, we will not see God clearly. If we cannot see God clearly, our joy falls. If our joy falls we become a sitting duck for any sin that comes our way.

Matthew 5:28-30 But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. So if your eye—even your good eye—causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your hand—even your stronger hand—causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

These are not just idle words. It shows that we are at war. The main place to fight the battle isn’t in a list of “do’s and don’ts”. It is by fighting for a joy that is superior than the quick surge that comes from pornography. Pray that God would do a work of joy that would wean you off of that cheap pleasure.
