Topic #1

Learn three important steps to engaging an athlete or coach.

Talking Points:

  • PursueGOD is all about equipping people in what we call conversational discipleship.
  • Conversational discipleship consists of 3 steps: Send a topic, invite them to talk about it with you, repeat.
Questions
  1. What is your initial reaction to this topic? What jumped out at you?
  2. How have you tried to engage coaches or athletes in the past? How well did it work? What was the typical end result? 
  3. Describe the 3 steps to engaging a coach or athlete with the pursueGOD.org resources. Do you think it will work? Explain.
  4. Make a list of coaches and athletes that you want to engage over the next two months. Under each of their names, list a few titles to share from pursueGOD.org or FLEXTALK.org. Make a commitment to pray for them and share those titles over the next few weeks, one topic at a time.

  4. Look at your list from last week. Are any of those coaches ready to move to the equipping phase with you? If not, which one do you think will be the first to move on to an active discipleship relationship with you?
  5. What’s your action step based on today’s topic?

Topic #3

Now it’s time to empower your athletes to be disciplemakers themselves.

Talking Points:

  • They  will do exactly what you modeled for them.
  • You need to encourage them that they can do it.
  • You train them by going through the training resources.
  • You help them find another student to mentor.

  2. What does it mean to “empower” a coach or athlete? Try to articulate it in your own words. 
  3. Describe the 3 steps to empowering a coach or athlete with the pursueGOD.org resources. Do you think it will work? Explain.
  4. Look at your list from last week. Are any of those coaches ready to move to the empowering phase with you? If not, which one do you think will be the first to do it?
  5. What’s your action step based on today’s topic?
