Is it ever okay to abort a child, even if testing shows the child will be born with special needs?

Talking Points:

  • Pastor Todd describes how the decision to abort a child is wrapped up in the idea of that child’s life being valuable. When we do not leave the judgement of value up to God, things can start to spiral downwards.
  • Once you make the decision that the unborn fetus is a child, then all other questions of burden or value become irrelevant, because that child is made in the image of God.
  • We are all flawed.  Because we are born into a sinful world, we are all born as imperfect children. When we start to question the value of life outside of a biblical worldview, then morality becomes very difficult.
  • If we look at it through a utilitarian lens, then where do we draw the line on value? This type of thinking can lead to flawed judgement of all life where we consider terminating anyone of any age who does not have worldly value or may be a burden to others.
  • Rich Smith knows and understands the true value of all children. He has a son with down syndrome and you can check out his story at www.noahsdad.com.
