The higher the expectations, the bigger the fall. Disciple-making is hard, so get ready for some serious ups and downs.

Key Points:

  • Don’t expect the other person to connect with you right away. It takes time to build trust in a relationship.
  • Mentoring can change from week to week, so don’t over-react to the ups and downs. Just keep showing up and listening.
  • Even Jesus’ disciples failed him again and again, but he never gave up on them. Luke 22:34
  • You can only do your part in disciple-making; God will do his part. 1 Corinthians 3:6-9

Quote This:

1 Corinthians 3:6-7 I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow. It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow.

  5. In mentoring, truth is discovered over time. How was that true in Peter’s faith journey? What about Paul’s? What about yours?
  6. Read 1 Corinthians 3:6-7. What is your part in disciple-making? What is God’s part? What is the mentee’s part?
  7. Write a personal action step based on this conversation.
