God's love illustrates that his attributes are perfectly consistent. God never acts in a way that contradicts his nature.

God Is Love

Christians are not just saying that God loves, but that God IS love. Love is an essential part of God’s character.

Jeremiah 31:3 Long ago the Lord said to Israel: “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.”

God’s love is uninfluenced. There is nothing in human beings that contributes to it. He loves us in spite of ourselves. God’s love is eternal. God’s love is also holy. His love never conflicts with his holiness. God cannot express any attribute in contradiction to any other, because they are all intrinsic to his very nature. This is the miracle of God’s saving work through Jesus Christ. On the cross, God’s justice, holiness, and love were all expressed in perfect consistency.

God Is Patient

God is slow to express his anger against sin. He compassion and mercy cause him to be longsuffering with human sin.

Exodus 34:6 The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out, “Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.”

God Is Faithful

God never fails. He never breaks relationship with people to whom he has pledged himself.

Psalm 119:90 Your faithfulness extends to every generation, as enduring as the earth you created.

Deuteronomy 7:9 Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.

God’s faithfulness gives you every reason to have increasing confidence in him.

God can never act in a way that is inconsistent with his basic nature. It is impossible for God to act faithlessly, impatiently, or unlovingly. He cannot lie or act unjustly. The greater knowledge you have of the true God, the greater God will be glorified through your life.
